Tony is a poet and the author of two previous children’s books, Big
Mama and Grandpa’s Overalls. He is Assistant Professor of English
at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and holds an M.F.A. from the
University of Virginia, an M.A. in philosophy from the University of Kentucky,
and a B. A. in religion and philosophy from Centre College of Kentucky.
Crunk’s poetry and hymns have been published in periodicals and
journals, such as Paris Review and Virginia Quarterly Review. He has also
been writer/artist-in residence at many schools around the country, and
been featured on NPR’s “Morning Edition” with Bob Edwards.
Michael Austin, Illustrator
Railroad John and the Red Rock Run
Michael
Austin, a graduate of the University of Mississippi, is a creative director
in Atlanta. In addition to Railroad John and the Red Rock Run, he has
illustrated 13 Monsters who should be avoided, The horned Toad Prince,
and Late for School.
Austin’s awards include; the 2000 Annual Exhibition of the Society
of Illustrators, 2000 2 X 2 Reading List (TX), 2002-2003 Land of Enchantment
Award Masterlist (NM), 2000 Shew Me Award Preliminary List (MO), and 2002-2003
Georgia Children’s Picture Storybook Award Nominee
